Advanced jQuery
by Mike Badgley on February 17, 2009
This afternoon I came across a good set of screencasts that were captured from a recent Web Developer’s conference in September of last year.
The first one I took a look at was one by John Resig, creator of jQuery. Although he does not have very good presentational skills (to be honest, his voice almost drove me mad), the insights he gave on jQuery were invaluable. As a JavaScript novice, I’ve been playing around with jQuery since it first came out a couple of years ago and have started to get more comfortable with the framework the more I’ve used it – and thats been a lot recently, as I’ve been trying to include some UI functionality in the projects I’m involved with.
A few of the highlights included:
- Chaining; specifically the
end()andandSelf()methods. - Testing with QUnit.
- Profiling a page via Deep Profile; this allows you to determine what method(s) are taking the most resources (run time).

Hey, nice tips. Perhaps I’ll buy a glass of beer to the person from that forum who told me to go to your blog :)

If you ever want to read a reader’s feedback :) , I rate this article for 4/5. Decent info, but I just have to go to that damn msn to find the missed bits. Thanks, anyway!
